Yam isn't the usual pickle vegetable, but cooked down and paired with dates it takes on a texture and sweetness that's genuinely different from anything else in our range. The yam turns soft without falling apart, and the dates bring a natural sweetness that balances the chilli and tang.

It's tempered in gingelly oil with mustard seeds and curry leaves like the rest of our pickles, so it still carries that familiar Kerala achar base, just with a milder, more rounded flavour. Good with rice or even on its own as a snack.

Made in small batches with no artificial preservatives, colours or flavours, the way our family has done it since starting Ummachi's in 2020.

Enjoy it with hot steamed rice or biryani, or pair it with chapati, paratha, dosa, and upma. The natural sweetness of dates also makes it a great side with biryani or a quick sandwich spread.
